My First Week as a RN

Here it is the end of Monday.
I had my first day on the job last Wednesday.

first day
I mainly shadowed the two physicians at the office. It was mainly for me to learn what urogynecology is all about. It is mainly a bunch of pelvic floor disorders and incontinence. I was entertained and enlightened.

My drive out of Dallas

I had to have my second TB test done on my first day so I showed up a bit early. I was also paranoid about traffic and ended up leaving 1 hour and 45 minutes before I was to start.

My second day, I followed one of the RNs around and watched her do some urodynamics on 5 patients. I really enjoyed this and I am still getting the hang of it. On the last 3 patients she had me run the computer while she performed the procedure.
I arrived early that day too because I had to get my permanent parking permit.
One of the Botox Reps brought bundt cakes for the office (yes, people get botox in their bladder, it helps paralyze it and stop the bladder from having spasms).

On Friday when I drove in, I noticed reunion tower lit up for the Rangers (I'm still upset we didn't make it to the playoffs)!
I went in early, this time to have my TB test read and get my flu shot. The flu shot is required by all employees.

I followed one of the nurse practitioners around all day. We did a couple urodynamics and answered calls the rest of the time. This stressed me out because I don't feel that I know enough at this point to help out patients that call. I am also not much of a phone person. It made my Friday a little rough, but it gave me some experience.

I hit the road for Houston after I swung by my parent's house and picked up Scout.

I was so happy to see Lance. We had dinner and went to sleep fairly early, meaning before 1 am.
We awoke early on Saturday and ran the Race for the Cure.

But not before Scout rubbed it in that she got to sleep in while we went for a run.

We got to Lance's law school at 7:30 for a group photo and then walked over to the race start.

Some people were really dressed up.

before the race

I liked the pink port-a-potty.

We grabbed some freebies from the after party and walked back to the truck.

On the way we found the old original library.

We went to breakfast at Einstein's Bagels and headed home to get ready for the Battle of the Piney Woods. We went last year. SHSU won this year too!
Lance got to meet up with some of his fraternity brothers.

We relaxed the rest of the weekend. I needed it after such a busy week!

I headed back to Arlington last night. I finally got the hang of going to bed early down. I got my full 8 hours of sleep last night.

Today at work, I worked with one of the medical assistants and we did some installations and I called patients whose labs came back normal. I felt more comfortable doing that at this point.

That is all for now!
