Job Prep

The night after I arrived back in Houston, Lance and I celebrated me getting a job.
He brought me home flowers, champagne, and a card.

The card was sweet and made me cry. I cannot wait for this boy to graduate so we can be permanently together again.

I started getting sick right after I got back to Houston. I think it was all the stress, ups and downs, securing a job, and knowing I'd be away from Lance the majority of my time.
I spent a lot of time in bed.

Scout has a routine of licking Lance's feet until she falls asleep every night.
It's rather cute.

Sam Houston State played Baylor this past Saturday. We didn't have the channel that it aired on, so we went up to Buffalo Wild Wings.

He watched and I played trivia while enjoying a Bloody Mary. I asked for spicy and it about killed me.

Getting closer to finishing here.

My Basic Life Support certification was almost expired and needed to be renewed. I looked up local class times and decided Tuesday would be the day.

It was nice to be back in a classroom setting and learning. I feel most at home in a classroom.
3 hours later I was done. One of the girls in my class got a call from her kids daycare. Her child of 7 months stopped breathing and they had called 911. I felt so bad. She ran out of there to go to the hospital.

That night, the puzzle got finished!
We caught Scout with a piece in her mouth several days ago and saved it. We thought she had ate a couple of pieces before we caught her. There was one piece missing when we were finished. I was about to blame Scout, but then I looked under one of the chairs and found it!

Sticking her tongue out.

This past weekend, I noticed a lot of blood on the side of Scout's mouth. I cleaned her off with a wet towel to get all the blood off. I was about to use some peroxide on it because I thought she had hurt herself. She opened her mouth and I saw that blood was coming out of a hole in her gums. SHE WAS LOSING HER MOLARS!
Yesterday, I finally found one.
It was on the ground next to her while she was napping. This is the first one she hasn't swallowed. There are several teeth missing in her mouth now and dried blood on all of her toys.
Her breath is driving me nuts because it smells like foul blood.

I got an email for a phone screen for the NICU residency position at Baylor. What are the odds. The same system I just accepted a position from. Geeze. My dream job too. Some day I will reapply for the residency. In a year or 2. I need to stick with my commitment at the time.

I guess I should tell y'all when the job starts.
As of now, October 1st!

I had my drug test last Thursday and began the background check.
I had no idea what the drug test was like. I thought they were going to draw a lot of blood. It was a simple pee in the cup kind of thing. I had 3 days from the time I got the email to get it done. I found a Quest diagnostics here in Houston to get it done. I saved a trip back to DFW.
I do have a health screen that needs to be done and I scheduled that for next Monday. So I am going to drive to Arlington really early on Monday morning. My appointment is at 2.

That is about it for now!

I Got a Job

You know what this picture means

Yep, I went back to Arlington.

Here is the story:
Remember that I wrote about HR from Baylor calling me for an interview and me telling them that I could not come until the following week? She had told me that she would call me back and I didn't think it was going to happen. Well, she called.
She scheduled for me to have an interview 3 days later on Monday. I told her yes because I'm too timid to say no. I really didn't want to drive all the way back to Arlington for an interview and be turned down. I wanted a way out, so I called the director of the ED that I had the interview with the week before (because I was supposed to hear from them by the end of the week with their decision). He did not answer, so I left a message. I figured I wouldn't hear back that day.
I went back and forth on coming to Arlington. When I woke up Sunday I still wasn't sure if I wanted to go. I was even thinking of calling HR knowing they wouldn't be there on a Sunday and leaving a message that I would not be making it to the interview. Gosh I'm horrible.
This is when I read an email from my Mom that she had rearranged her racquetball games, cancelled her appointment with Fidelity, and told me that my Dad was really excited for me to come home.
Shucks.
"I guess I'm going".
I packed my suit and hit the road.
I spent the evening with an upset stomach because once again, my nerves creep on in thinking about another interview. This is number 6 by the way.
I woke up Monday and called the ED one last time to see if I could get out of this interview. This time, the director picked up. I asked him if they had come to a decision and he told me he would call me back at 11 to talk with me (my interview was at 11:30 at Baylor).
I left way ahead of time to drive to Dallas. I was supposed to call when I was leaving so they could let me know if the doctor was running behind. I called and no one answered, so I left.
I somehow managed to find parking and walked on in. The doctor was behind, so I went down to the lobby. I was still waiting on the call from the director at the ED. I figured he would call while I was in the interview.
I ended up having the interview and was invited back the next day to meet with another doctor that was in surgery that day. I'm still thinking I got the ED job and now I'm going to have to drive over to Dallas once again.
ED never called, still hasn't.
2 hours after my second interview at Baylor, I got a call from HR offering me the position.
I screamed "I'LL TAKE IT" into the phone.
This was a blessing in disguise.
Yes, it's away from Lance and Houston, BUT it's a JOB with benefits, DAY shifts, NO HOLIDAYS OR WEEKENDS having to work and I will not be working in a hospital. Low stress!
I plan on working during the week and driving/flying to Houston on the weekends to be with Lance.
In a year, if he gets a job in the DFW area, I will have networked and still be at a job. If he gets a job in Houston, I will have a year under my belt and be able (hopefully) to get a job down there.
I've never been so happy and torn all at the same time.

Here are the pics from my 2 night stay back in Arlington.

5 minutes before leaving for Houston, I noticed a pattern in the house

I had to wake her up to hit the road

She is getting too big to lay in the front seat so she comes up with some funny positions.

I think I had too much to drink last night celebrating, so I am on the mend in bed today.
Scout is keeping me company.

It's funny how things turn out.

Fall is in the Air

Random Scout photos:

You're always going to get pet photos on this blog.
Always.

There is a website that lists freebies that pop up on the internet. Lance ordered luggage tags for us that have our info and pictures on them. He got his, but I'm still waiting on mine.

More Scout photos:

I love this pose!

Crazy face

Lance and I had been meaning to go to Target to make a return.
Then we spent probably over an hour browsing the store...BUT FIRST: I had my first pumpkin spice latte of the season.
It was perfection! That is the closest to the picture I've ever seen and it tasted amazing.

We bought a 1,000 piece puzzle.
It has been coming along nicely.

It had been years since I made this blueberry drink that my family discovered in a recipe guide.
I decided to make it!
blueberries
1/2 lime squeezed
2 packets of Splenda
Sprite Zero

that's it

It is FootBall Season and Lance is glued to the TV. Fantasy Football is one serious thing, I just didn't know it.
We spent Saturday watching the games and then he studied a bit. I LOVED seeing Florida beat out the Aggies.

You may remember the Fall decorations that my Mom and I gathered while we were in the NC mountains last September. I got them out of our storage closet and began to put a little Fall in the house.

The puzzle!
