Fourth of July Week

I've got just about a week to recap what has been going on.

We saw Moonrise Kingdom at River Oaks Theatre.
We stumbled upon one of the oldest movie theaters in Houston by accident. Lance has been wanting to see Ted for some time, so I offered to go to the movies with him. He took another look at the movies that were out and decided on Moonrise Kingdom. I am a fan of Wes Anderson and decided to look up showtimes. The closest theater? River Oaks
The first thing I noticed was there was a giant line out of the door and a couple was having their engagement photos taken out front. Must be a cool place, I thought. It was at that time I realized they have three screens and read later that the building is all original on the inside. And guess what? They do the midnight showings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show with the whole dressing up shtuff! woo!
The movie was amazing. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Seriously, go see it.

Here we are at the top of the parking garage. You can see the theater right smack in the middle of us in the distance.

And to the left of me was this wonderful view of the Houston skyline.

My best friend came into town.
It was Katie's brother and sister-in-law's birthdays this past week and they had a get together. They live here in Houston so I got the added bonus of having Katie in town. She drove in Saturday and we spent the afternoon getting ready for the night and catching up. Katie, Lance, and I shared a taxi to our first stop of the night, Piola. They specialize in pizza and it was delicious!

After dinner, we went to Spotlight karaoke. Katie informed me that her sister-in-law loves karaoke. We had a private room so it was a little less embarrassing when I destroyed a rap song. Destroyed in a bad way!

Katie in the middle and me on the right
The whole gang went to one of her brother's friend's apartments. At this point one of Lance's friends that I have been trying to set up with Katie had joined us. The four of us ended up going out alone to Howl at the Moon for the rest of the night.
Here is Katie trying to go up on stage to get the piano player's hat.

The four of us shared a taxi back to Lance and I's place to end the night.
The next morning we all watched hours of TV before Katie had to head back to the DFW area =(
(PS: I think I might be a good matchmaker, so far Katie and Lance's friend have hit it off and they have plans this weekend in Fort Worth...yes, he is driving to go see her!)
They kept commenting on how "cute" Lance and I were and I'm going to bask in that for the moment.
Because on this day, we have been together for a year and a half.
And this is what a year and half looks like for us:

I received my North Carolina License and my Texas Temporary License in the mail.
I am still in the process of getting my official Texas license at the moment. I got my fingerprints done last week and have sent in the form for my background check. I planned on taking my JP exam (over the Nurse Practice Act) tonight, but the website is having problems.

Scout worn out

I'm working on being a better girlfriend.
I'm quite a handful and complain a lot. I feel bad for the guy, I really do. I have been trying hard to make him feel appreciated because I do appreciate him. It's just hard when I'm tired, cranky, and the puppy is barking in my ear!
He has left me notes before and I felt it was my turn and got him with a double whammy when he got to school.

One on his laptop and the other in his wallet.

I've taken walks with the puppy.

I've celebrated the Fourth of July!

We decided to spend the 4th at Discovery Green. But first, we needed a red, white, and blue bandana. We headed to PetsMart and they didn't have any. The employee told me he would grab one from grooming and gave it to us for free. In the meantime, we got Scout a tag in case she gets lost. She met a bulldog puppy and it was the cutest thing.

By the time we got to Discovery Green, Scout was tired from PetsMart. haha.

Here she is wondering where Lance was going (he was paying for parking).

It was hot (of course) and Scout just wanted to be lazy and drink water.

There are several bars that allow dogs on their patio, but there was one Lance has been wanting to go to before he even knew they allowed dogs. We hit up the West Alabama Ice House and enjoyed some beers.
It wasn't long before 2 goldens joined the crowd.

There were so many dogs and Scout was having a blast. We ordered food from a Greek food truck and enjoyed ourselves. We ran into Lance's buddy from law school and his wife. It was only their second time there and they didn't know they allowed dogs. His buddy complemented Lance on his shirt (the one he got from Old Navy on our road trip, after he made fun of me for liking Old Navy so much). They left to get froyo and wouldn't you know, they came back some time later and he had bought the same shirt!

Twinsies!

They brought their dog, Tucker!

Lance and I played basketball with two other couples (HORSE).
Scout dug her first hole and kept trying to cover it up.

We were so hot and dirty, we jumped in the pool once we got home.
We missed the fireworks, but it's okay. We had a great day!

I tried the new Cantina Bowl at Taco Bell.
I broke my two month Taco Bell Hiatus and let me tell you, it was worth it! Go try this thing, it's buy one get one free through tomorrow if you print off the coupon.

I have an interview at MD Anderson Cancer Hospital.
I honestly did not remember applying for their residency program. I had to search back in my email and realized the deadline was back in April. It took them 3 months to contact me, but it happened and I was surprised. I'm frantically preparing for the interview because this is whole different ball game than a plastic surgeon's office. This is the big leagues...multiple people grilling me on nursing stuff.
I might crap my pants.
I mean, it's the top Cancer Hospital in the US.

And no, sadly, I have not heard back from the plastic surgeon's office. It would be nice to have options.
